FAQ

Are my scripts and ideas safe?

100%.  We all sign a form of confidentiality in regards to the work we read. Any breech of this confidentiality is a serious matter. Check out our terms of service if you want to know more about our non-disclosure policies

Do you take a cut or percentage of my script?

Never! The beauty of ScriptMaps is that our relationship only lasts as long as you want it to. We don’t take commissions and you own 100% of your scripts and intellectual property (IP). Check our our terms of service if you want to know more.

Will ScriptMaps refer my script or get me an agent or manager?

We wish we could! Alas, in order to keep our industry relationships, we can only advise on the best course of action. But many clients have had success securing an agent or manager due fully or in part from following discussions with our ScriptMaps coaches. Please talk to your ScriptMaps coach to learn more!

Who is my ScriptMaps Coach?

Your ScriptMaps coach isn’t a random person off the street. They are a vetted entertainment industry expert! Our criteria for coaches is strict. They must not only provide relevant work experience but also excellent industry references. We keep our standards high. Most of our coaches have held development positions at major studios and agencies.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a coaching session?

Life is unpredictable, we get it! Things can change at a moments notice. That being said, we do block off our time for every scheduled coaching appointment. Cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to your appointment. Cancellations made within 24 hours may not be refunded. Refunds are at the discretion of your coach! “No-Shows” will not be refunded.

What is script coverage?

Coverage is written by “readers“; these individuals (Interns, Mailroom Staff, etc) review your script and send the studio a report. It usually contains a synopsis and some comments, including what worked and what didn’t. They also provide a rating: Pass, Consider, or Recommend. Generally speaking, any script that fails to get a "Recommend" rating won’t progress and be read by anyone else.

Do you provide “script coverage” or “script notes”?

Actually, we provide “script notes.” Coverage is an industry term that refers to the report used by the studio to screen a script’s initial story. Coverage is also used more generically within the community to mean “feedback”. What you receive from ScriptMaps is best described as “notes”. It is constructive and useful feedback that means to help improve the script and the writers craft.

What if I don’t like my coverage?

Oh no! Let’s fix that! We work very hard to make sure that our team delivers constructive and actionable feedback. We want to help you improve your script! Please note, any feedback you don’t agree with is not always “bad” feedback. We will be straightforward and honest with our notes. That way you can actually make marked improvements in your script. But if the coverage you receive does not meet expectations of quality, we will work with you to find a solution.
